We will wrap up the Flux Festival with a licensed party including a DJ, karaoke and a fundraiser to support Flux’s urban garden with a Pig Roast put on by chef, “Masta Rand” and brother Gord. Flux will be supplying cabbage slaw. Feel free to bring a side food item only if you feel compelled to do so (not required).
How can society and nature thrive together? Why should humans care about the state of urban ecosystems? The Flux Frontier offers the exploratory grounds to ask such questions. Through day to day management, the Flux Frontier is a space that will emphasize and value the kind of knowledge that can only be gained through practice, daily observations and trial and error.
Our school is very fortunate to have such a large tract of land to work with and explore the question of how to create positive and life affirming interactions between humans and the natural world in an urban landscape. The majority of humans now live in an urban setting and therefore questions of what makes humans thrive in an urban ecosystem are more relevant than ever. Our hope is that the Flux Frontier will become an educational centre for urban ecology. A space where humans, young and old, can learn about ecology and the importance of growing food.
The Board Game Bistro will be catering on site all day with food such as local hotdogs and snacks available for purchase (cash only).
A portion of the fees raised will fund Flux’s urban garden and those that wish to donate further can do so through Flux Community Inc.'s Paypal.

]]>The first is Khiem, who has joined our teaching team.
Khiem is a physical therapist who quickly learned in his work that movement is crucial to keeping people healthy. Before Flux he spent 10 years training and coaching in Chinese martial arts. He started training at Flux in 2012, and has since then furthered his education in movement. He is excited to join the coaching team to help Fluxers move correctly, move more, and move in new ways. We are excited to have his skill set in the gym and it’s been great to see his Flying Pigs class continually growing!
Leah joined the administration team part-time after working out with Flux since October 2017. She found the guided training from coaches to be incredibly helpful to her overall well-being. The community at Flux has been an unexpected and wonderful addition to her life, a built in accountability to get to the gym and keep moving! So much so that she decided to join the team and be another friendly face around the gym. Although new and still learning, she’s around to help out with any questions you may have.
Welcome to you both!
]]>With all the excitement and anticipation comes our heart felt plea for your patience. July will continue to be a month of transition and construction. This means that we may still be working with some make shift facilities (outdoor toilets, showers, etc.). All facilities (including washrooms, showers, movement space, etc.) will be completed in July, we just can't give an exact date!
Our incredible new Parkour area and our great outdoor back space is ready to host all of our classes! Have you seen the workshops we will be holding in the backyard:
Wicking Beds workshop July 3
Building Healthy Soil workshop July 17
Passive Watering System/Lawn Alternative July 31
We would love to have as many folks attend these as possible! These workshops are open to everyone, not just Fluxers! Let's show off some of the many elements of what makes Flux so awesome!
So, here's what this all means for you dear Fluxers:
We are planning a major Flux Festival grand opening for the fall with a pig roast, dance party, and all kinds of other Flux shenanigans! Please stay tuned for details!
Human Aliveness Program begins with the simple invitation to examine your physicality as a source of inspiration, contemplation and curiosity. Human Aliveness is a program that enables you to create a physical practice that makes sense for you.
Human Aliveness encourages the individual to take an active role in making connections between their daily physical practices, the food they eat, and how they move in their body in their everyday. Human Aliveness is a program of bodily awareness and daily practice that is rooted in ecology. Our mentorship program goes far beyond what can be captured through conceptions of fitness or exercise. As concepts, exercise and fitness have much to offer in that they get people to be more physically active, but we believe that concepts of exercise and fitness still compartmentalize life and the body in a false way. Human Aliveness program takes what works with traditional exercise and fitness paradigms, but it also radically alters how we have come to understand and practice these terms. What this means for you is a more seamless and integrated life of health and movement that promotes longevity and the freedom in your body to do the things you love.
The body and mind crave new experiences and new situations and our unique approach through movement aims to do just that - create new contexts and new physical challenges to ensure that your body and mind continue to be inspired. A defining feature of the human animal as a species is our sociability. We need to ask ourselves why we often bracket exercise or fitness off as an isolating and atomistic activity and very often PREDICTABLE activity. Our Human Aliveness program stresses physical games and new contexts that the body is compelled to react to and react upon. This, we believe, keeps the body inspired and engaged.
Anyone who is looking to break free of or to compliment their more mainstream strength and conditioning programs.
High Performance Athletes that are looking to become better movers in their sport. Athletes do not need another strength and conditioning program in their off-season. We will help athletes to understand their deficiencies, their strengths, and to identify where potential injuries lie in order to prevent them. This can happen only through careful observation in movement situations, not static situations or through rote experiences of the body. We help athletes to develop cross axis development, strong and resilient joints, how to create power in their body and to understand their kinetic potential. We also stress rhythm, coordination and cross axis collaboration. Athleticism cannot exist without rhythm. Moreover, any body will become stunted in their physical capacity if they don’t change the rules to the game on occasion.
If you are dealing with chronic or acute injuries. Flux’s unique movement approach to the body has given hope to many people. We will guide you through an understanding of pain and what pain may or may not be telling your body. We take a progressive approach when dealing with injuries. We believe there are certain universal principles that govern human movement and that through bodily awareness of such principles your are far more likely to experience longevity and enjoy pain free movement
What we eat and our choice of a physical practice are probably the most direct ways of taking control of our health. We will help you to navigate the practical realities of modern day living and how to merge your day-to-day eating practices with a deeper and more grounded connection to nature. After all, our bodies depend on the health of the natural world. We can help you to navigate the confusing and often contradictory messages of the diet and fitness industry. Aliveness goes beyond living on auto-pilot and following trends and fads in these industries. Our program will guide you towards a deep knowledge of the vast and interconnected processes that sustain and feed humans. We believe that this wisdom is integral to the restoration and cultivation of a healthy relationship to food and your body.
The cost for this program is $325 (+GST) per month.

Flux School of Human Movement
1100 Scarth Street
Regina, SK
What an adventure it has been!
Change is always tough but the new space will enable us to bring to fruition many of our dreams! First and foremost, with our much bigger space, we will be able to house all of our programs under one roof. Flux is truly unique with both its philosophy and wildly diverse programming and now we will have the physical space to create ever more ‘contact zones’ of movement.
I had always envisioned that people who walked into Flux’s doors would be walking into another world - another way of thinking and being in the body that went far, far beyond just “working out” - a circus atmosphere of playfulness and experimentation. I am proud that our little, but expanding culture has been influential in Saskatchewan and beyond and that Flux has pioneered radical alternatives of what it means to live in one’s body in a community with others. We have also been committed to asking hard questions, often centered around our food and eating practices. For instance, what does it mean to be human in an age of unprecedented ecological destruction? How might humans as a species contribute an energy of reciprocity at both the local and the global level so that we might flourish in all of our entangled communities?
In order to materialize an idea you need to surround yourself with people who believe in your idea (even when you as the leader are filled with self-doubt at times). I am so grateful for our teachers who each bring their own knowledge, passions and vast curiosities about human movement to Flux. I am also grateful for all of our students. When you step into Flux you are very much like Alice going down the rabbit hole. Flux does not offer any easy sign posts to navigate and give meaning to your movement experiences. Flux has also worked hard not to be bound or closed off by settled categories. So thank you to all of our students, both near and far who never cease to inspire me.
Flux began in a 300 square foot space that was unheated and uninsulated. I have fond memories of lifting barbells in toques and mitts. I also have fond memories of running up and down our alley like small town Saskatchewan kids. To keep this somewhat anarchist bend, my pledge is to offer more guerilla like experiences for our students with our new facility offering an environment to cook up new ideas.
Thank you to the Cathedral for enabling a kernel of an idea to grow and flourish. Our ideas took root in the Cathedral, but now new routes will take us on new adventures. And in our new space, ever more roots, knots and entanglements will take shape.

Read more about Rebecca and her Flux story below.
I found Flux in the fall of 2009. Since then it has been a huge part of my life. As a child I was active and took part in figure skating, softball, volleyball and other sports. However, I never really thought of myself athletic.
Since being part of the Flux community, I have enjoyed an amazing variety of different kinds of movement and training and always love to try new things. The influx of new ideas and methods that you have access to at Flux is amazing. During my time training at Flux, I have had the opportunity to work with movement, gymnastics, CrossFit, weight training, capoeira and more. I have learned and grown so much from the incredible teachers at Flux.
I have also been fortunate to take part in workshops put on by Ido Portal and Odelia Goldschmidt when they have previously visited Regina. Movement and gymnastics has always been favourites of mine. It is fun to see what people can do when they work through the proper progressions, even through the ups and downs. Capoeira has also become a favourite way to play with movement.
The other side of Flux that I appreciate being part of is the wonderful community that has grown around this gymFrom friendships, to potlucks, to learning opportunities around traditional nutrient dense nutrition and our environment, Flux has been integral in my ability to be a healthy person. My entire family is part of this gym community. My children have grown up healthy, active and willing to move and try new things, which I credit to their time with Flux.
I look forward to future chances to learn, grown and help others to discover their own inner movers. I can’t wait to encourage others in their journey.
